Tragic Day on Upper Rideau Lake as Brampton Man Dies in Drowning Incident

A 24-year-old Brampton man has died after a canoe capsized on Upper Rideau Lake on Saturday afternoon, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Emergency crews were called to the lake shortly after 5:30 p.m. following reports that a canoe had overturned on the lake. Officers from the Leeds County OPP, along with Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Services and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department, responded to the scene.

Police said the man was located and rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have identified the deceased as a 24-year-old man from Brampton. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, the man was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the incident.

The tragic drowning serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety, particularly when boating or paddling on Ontario’s lakes and waterways.
