BRAMPTON, ON — A months-long retail theft investigation in Peel Region has led to the arrest of a Brampton man and the recovery of about $30,000 worth of stolen goods, police say.

Investigators from Peel Regional Police say officers with 12 Division executed a search warrant at a home in Brampton on March 9 following a three-month probe into retail theft and the suspected distribution of stolen merchandise.

During the search, officers recovered a large quantity of items believed to have been taken from major retailers, including 300 bottles of alcohol, 100 bricks of butter, and 91 tubs of ghee. Police estimate the total retail value of the recovered property at roughly $30,000.

As a result of the investigation, Pintu Gohil, 48, of Brampton, has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on April 7.

Police say retail theft remains a concern across the region. In 2025 alone, nearly 7,500 retail theft incidents were reported to Peel Regional Police, although officials note the number has declined by about six per cent compared with the previous year.

Acting Deputy Chief Hubert Hiltz said retail theft has ripple effects across the community, from higher prices for consumers to potential job losses and reduced investment in local businesses.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact 12 Division or submit an anonymous tip through Peel Crime Stoppers. 🚨
