A Brampton resident is facing a second-degree murder charge following a fatal shooting inside a local home Friday evening. Peel Regional Police responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the area of Dartford Road and Balmoral Drive shortly after 5:30 p.m.
Officers arriving on scene found a 26-year-old man with critical gunshot injuries. Emergency measures were attempted, but the victim was pronounced dead at the location. A suspect was arrested inside the home without incident.
Police later identified the accused as 37-year-old Christopher Beharry of Brampton. Investigators confirmed that the victim and the accused were known to one another and described the shooting as an isolated incident.
Authorities say the violence was confined to the residence and have reassured residents that there is no continuing risk to public safety. The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
