A French tourist died Saturday evening in a snowmobile crash in the Lanaudière region.

The 58-year-old man was traveling on a marked trail just before 7 p.m. when he lost control of the snowmobile and struck a tree, provincial police said.

The man was taken to a hospital but died of his injuries.

In January, five French tourists and a Montreal man died in the Lac-Saint-Jean region after their snowmobiles fell into the Grande Décharge river.
