Brampton MPP Under Review Over Public Funds Used for Family Newspaper Ads

A Brampton MPP is under review after Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner began examining allegations that taxpayer money was used to purchase advertisements in a newspaper reportedly run by an immediate family member.

Progressive Conservative MPP Hardeep Grewal is accused of using public funds to advertise in the Punjabi Post, a publication allegedly operated by his father. The allegations come as Grewal also faces scrutiny over more than $27,000 in Toronto hotel expense claims despite living in Brampton.

Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles has requested the investigation, saying residents deserve to know how public money is being spent.

Grewal said the newspaper is a well-known ethnic publication that has carried ads from multiple political parties. He acknowledged he should have first consulted the Integrity Commissioner and has since sought guidance.

The Integrity Commissioner’s office confirmed the matter is under review and has not released further details.
