BRAMPTON — Work has started on a new earth bund designed to reduce flood risk during periods of heavy rainfall as part of a natural flood management approach.
The bund will slow and regulate surface water before it reaches Brampton Beck, helping to reduce peak flows and the risk of the watercourse overflowing into nearby areas.
Unlike traditional concrete barriers, this scheme uses the landscape itself as a defence, aligning with wider UK efforts that combine bunds, wetlands, and tree planting to build long-term climate resilience.
Residents may notice ongoing construction near the railway station as the bund takes shape. Once complete, it is expected to blend into the surroundings while providing vital protection for homes, businesses, and community spaces.
💬 Officials say the approach focuses on “working with nature” to manage increasingly heavy rainfall events more effectively.
