A 24-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple charges after a chaotic series of incidents involving an attempted vehicle theft, a police chase, and officers allegedly being pepper-sprayed during the arrest.
According to Peel Regional Police, officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in a hotel parking lot on October 6 when the driver allegedly tried to flee the scene, damaging several vehicles in the process.
Police say the suspect, identified as Rajbir Singh, then attempted to steal another vehicle and allegedly tried to carjack a second one while running from officers.
When police caught up to him, he allegedly pepper-sprayed responding officers before being taken into custody. Officers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.
Singh is now facing 16 charges, including:
• Assaulting a peace officer
• Dangerous driving-related offences
• Theft of a motor vehicle
• Possession of a controlled substance
• Breach of probation
Investigators also say he is connected to several similar incidents from last year.
Meanwhile, Peel Police are also searching for another Brampton man, Gurprit Singh, who is wanted in connection with dangerous driving and fleeing from police after allegedly speeding through a crowded parking lot during a separate incident.
Investigations remain ongoing.
