Canadian Products Face New Restrictions Under Trump Procurement Order

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new memorandum directing officials to identify Canadian-made products that could be removed from the U.S. federal government’s procurement system.

The move comes amid growing Canada-U.S. trade tensions, just days after the Trump administration announced restrictions on several Canadian products.

The memorandum asks the U.S. Trade Representative and the Office of Management and Budget to identify Canadian goods that could be restricted or made unavailable for federal government purchases.

It does not immediately ban Canadian products, but could lead to new restrictions in the future.

The memo also directs U.S. officials to monitor how American-made products are treated in Canadian government procurement, as trade tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.
