Brampton Plant Talks Continue Between Stellantis and Federal Officials

Stellantis says it remains at the table with Ottawa and union leaders as discussions continue over the future of its shuttered Brampton assembly plant.

Speaking at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, Trevor Longley said the automaker is still searching for a viable way to keep vehicle production alive in Brampton, following the decision to move Jeep Compass manufacturing to the United States.

Longley stressed that Canada remains an important part of Stellantis’ long-term vision, noting the company’s century-long history of building vehicles in the country. He said the automaker is working closely with the federal government and Unifor to navigate tariff challenges and explore options that could support Canadian auto manufacturing.

The Brampton plant closure, announced last fall as part of Stellantis’ broader U.S. investment strategy, affected roughly 3,000 workers. While no final plan has been confirmed, Longley said measures that help protect domestic production and strengthen Canada’s auto sector would be viewed positively.

He also acknowledged the long-standing cost pressures facing Canadian manufacturing but emphasized Stellantis’ desire to remain invested in Canada for decades to come.
