Halton police have arrested a Brampton man in a major online investment scam that ripped off Canadians for more than $950,000.
Investigators say the scheme started back in fall 2024, when an 83-year-old Halton resident unknowingly put $750,000 of his retirement savings into what looked like a legit PC Financial GIC — but it turned out to be a fake website.
A second victim in Alberta was also scammed out of $250,000 through the same setup.

Police say the operation began overseas in England, where scammers posed as real PC Financial advisors using info stolen from LinkedIn. They allegedly teamed up with an Ontario accomplice who created a shell company, opened business accounts, and helped move the stolen money offshore.
In total, more than $950,000 was funnelled through these accounts before being laundered overseas.
On December 5, 2025, police arrested Inderjeet Singh, 26, of Brampton, charging him with fraud, possession of crime-related property, and money laundering. He’s been released and will appear in Milton court later.
Police are reminding residents to be extra careful with online investments, noting scammers often pretend to be trusted financial pros and use polished, believable websites to fool people.
