CUMBRIA, U.K. — A 54-year-old man has been charged following an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage girl in the town of Brampton.
According to Cumbria Police, the incident reportedly occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday near Hadrian’s Wall. The 16-year-old victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers.
Police have identified the accused as Peter Bennett, who faces charges of rape and sexual assault. He has appeared before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court, and the case has now been referred to a higher court, with the next hearing scheduled for April 20.
Investigators are continuing to look into the incident and are asking anyone who may have been in the Sawmill Lane or Stanley Road areas at the time to come forward with information.
Authorities say community cooperation will be key as the investigation moves forward.
