A 25-year-old man from Brampton has died after his vehicle was hit with multiple gunshots in a mall parking lot Monday evening, according to Peel police.

The shooting—believed to be targeted—happened around 7 p.m. near Hurontario Street and Bartley Bull Parkway, just off Steeles Avenue East. When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive inside his vehicle and had to break a window to get to him. He was found alone inside the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene.

Police say the suspects fled the area before officers got there, and so far, no descriptions have been released. A large police presence remained in the parking lot overnight as homicide detectives took over the investigation.

Const. Mandeep Khatra called the incident “concerning,” especially since it unfolded in a busy public space.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact the Peel police.
