Brampton City Council has approved the City’s 2026 budget, holding the City’s portion of property taxes at 0 per cent while continuing a 1 per cent levy dedicated to building Brampton’s second hospital. The plan keeps Brampton among the lowest-taxed municipalities in the GTA while supporting essential services for a growing city.

The budget includes investments in public safety with 24 new firefighters and 14 fire prevention officers, along with added resources for road safety, parking enforcement, and rental housing compliance. Recreation and community spaces also see major funding, including upgrades to the Howden Recreation Centre, Susan Fennell Sportsplex, and local parks and trails. Transit spending totals $120 million, highlighted by the addition of 44 electric buses, while strong reserve funds support long-term financial stability.

Mayor Patrick Brown said the budget reflects community priorities by balancing affordability with reliable services. Hospital leaders welcomed the continued funding, noting it will help move forward with the expansion of Peel Memorial into a full second hospital. Public input through town halls and coffee chats showed strong resident support, clearing the way for the City to move ahead with a plan focused on low taxes, strong services, and future growth.
