Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to suspend trade talks with the U.S. has sent tensions soaring, drawing a sharp response from President Donald Trump.

Trump revived his “51st state” rhetoric on Truth Social, while Canadian fans in Vancouver and Montreal booed the U.S. national anthem at MLS games.

Calls to buy Canadian also gained momentum as leaders backed Carney’s decision to walk away from what he called a “bad deal.”

The U.S. has now imposed 50% tariffs on billions of dollars of Canadian goods, including hockey sticks, honey, and dairy products.

Carney says Canada will respond with matching tariffs starting September 8, targeting sectors such as steel, agriculture, appliances, and electronics.

With both countries standing firm, the Canada-U.S. trade fight shows no signs of cooling.
