Ottawa: Canada is looking to deepen its economic partnership with India as International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu announced that a “Team Canada” business delegation will travel to India later this year.

Speaking alongside India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Ottawa, Sidhu said both countries are working toward significantly increasing bilateral trade, with ambitions to reach USD 50 billion by 2030. He described Goyal’s visit as “very timely” and noted there is growing enthusiasm in Canada to strengthen trade and investment ties with India.

Sidhu said the upcoming trade mission reflects Canada’s broader strategy to diversify exports beyond the U.S. market and unlock nearly USD 300 billion in additional non-U.S. exports. “There’s a lot of excitement to do more with India in terms of our economic partnership,” he said.

Meanwhile, Goyal welcomed the renewed momentum in India-Canada relations during his three-day official visit to Ottawa, which includes discussions focused on expanding trade, investment, and economic cooperation. The visit also comes as both countries continue negotiations on the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), seen as a key step toward strengthening long-term economic ties.
