Isabelle Weidemann is back on the World Cup podium. The Ottawa native skated to a silver medal in the women’s 3000m on Saturday, marking her second individual medal of the season. After a slower start, Weidemann found her rhythm and surged late in the race, finishing in 4:01.30, just behind gold medalist Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands.
It’s been a strong stretch for the 30-year-old, who also won silver in the 5000m last week in the Netherlands. Her consistent results now place her second overall in the women’s long-distance World Cup standings, putting her in a great position for Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic prequalification.
Other Canadians also made their mark, with Valérie Maltais finishing fourth in the 3000m. On the men’s side, Calgary’s Ted-Jan Bloemen placed fifth in the 5000m, keeping him in the hunt for what could be his third Olympic appearance.
