Brampton Man Faces Charges After Etobicoke Hit-and-Run Incident

A Brampton resident is facing multiple charges following a serious hit-and-run that left a pedestrian critically injured in Toronto’s Rexdale neighbourhood on Saturday night.

According to the Toronto Police Service, the incident occurred around 9:23 p.m. near Albion Road and Islington Avenue. Officers responded to reports of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

Investigators allege that a 58-year-old man was walking along the south-side sidewalk of Albion Road when a red Toyota Corolla travelling westbound suddenly veered across the eastbound lanes and mounted the curb, striking him. The vehicle then continued through a nearby parking lot, crashing into a fence and two parked cars before coming to a stop.

The individual was taken to the hospital in critical condition following the incident. Two passengers inside the Corolla were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police say the driver fled the scene on foot following the collision.

On Sunday, Suraju Ishau, 40, of Brampton, surrendered to officers at 23 Division. He has been charged with dangerous operation, causing bodily harm and failing to remain at the scene. The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and he is scheduled to appear in bail court.

Authorities describe the incident as deeply concerning and continue to investigate. Anyone with information is urged to contact Toronto police at 416-808-1400 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and accountability on Ontario’s streets.
