Brampton firefighters are expected to remain on scene for hours after a powerful two-alarm house fire tore through a north-end neighbourhood early Sunday morning.
The blaze broke out just before 4 a.m. at a home on Fernbrook Crescent near Kenpark Avenue, not far from the Mayfield and Kennedy roads intersection. The house was reportedly unoccupied when the fire started.
During the response, one firefighter suffered a leg injury while fighting the flames. Officials have not yet provided an update on the severity of the injury.
At one point, flames shot through the roof, sending thick smoke into the area. Crews managed to bring the fire under control around 5 a.m., but they’re urging residents to steer clear as firefighters continue working on hot spots and investigating the scene.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
