Canada Issues Travel Warning After Attacks Near Riyadh Airport

Canada is urging travellers to avoid non-essential trips to Saudi Arabia and all travel to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh following deadly attacks on the airport terminal.

Canadian Ambassador Jean-Philippe Linteau confirmed that the Canadian embassy in Riyadh remains open to help Canadians needing consular assistance. He also advised people to stay away from military debris, contact local authorities, and avoid sharing related images on social media.

Carney Condemns the Attacks

Prime Minister Mark Carney strongly condemned the attacks on civilian infrastructure, calling them “abhorrent” and unjustified. He also offered condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a full recovery.

According to reports, another projectile struck the airport’s passenger terminal on Sunday, a day after a missile attack reportedly killed 12 people and injured hundreds more. The airport remained closed on Sunday.

Canada Monitors Regional Security

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said she had spoken with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud and reaffirmed Canada’s support for Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity.

The attacks have raised concerns about regional security, travel and business activities. Canadian companies are monitoring the situation as Saudi Arabia continues efforts to attract international investment.

Canadians in Saudi Arabia are advised to follow local authorities’ instructions and check the latest official Canadian travel advisories before making travel plans.
