Central Brampton Plunged into Darkness After Unexpected Power Outage

BRAMPTON, ON — A significant power outage has left parts of downtown Brampton in the dark, impacting homes and businesses during the late afternoon.

According to Alectra Utilities, roughly 1,500 customers lost power in the area around Main Street and Queen Street West shortly after 4 p.m. on April 28. The outage affected a wide stretch of the city, from Main Street/Hurontario Street in the west to beyond Kennedy Road in the east, and as far north as Vodden Road West.

Residents and local businesses reported sudden outages, causing disruptions across the downtown core.

Utility crews were quickly dispatched to investigate and restore service, though the exact cause of the outage remains unknown at this time. Officials say efforts are underway, with power expected to be restored by around 9 p.m.

The incident highlights how quickly outages can impact daily life in Brampton’s busy core, as crews work to bring everything back online.
