Air Canada Pilot Accused of Flying for 17 Years Without Valid Licence

A former Air Canada pilot is facing multiple fraud-related charges after police alleged he flew commercial aircraft for nearly 17 years without holding the proper licence required to serve as a captain.

According to Peel Regional Police, 59-year-old Geoffrey Wall of Ontario allegedly used forged credentials after being promoted to captain in 2009. Investigators say he went on to operate approximately 900 domestic and international flights and earned millions of dollars in salary while allegedly lacking the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).

The issue came to light during a routine licence review last year when inconsistencies were discovered in his documentation. The findings prompted an investigation by Transport Canada, followed by a criminal investigation by Peel Regional Police.

Air Canada confirmed that Wall was immediately removed from duty once the concerns were identified and that the airline voluntarily reported the matter to Transport Canada. The company also emphasized that passenger safety was never at risk, noting that all pilots undergo regular training and competency evaluations every six months.

Police have compared the case to a medical professional performing specialized procedures without the necessary certification. Wall now faces seven charges, including fraud, forgery, and possession of counterfeit documents.

Air Canada says it has since completed an internal audit of its pilot records and found no additional compliance issues among its flight crews.
