In a major boost to healthcare in Brampton, 407 ETR has announced a transformative $7.5 million investment in the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) School of Medicine. The announcement was made during an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the TMU Integrated Health Centre, where representatives from both organizations, along with donors and community members, gathered to mark the milestone. Connected directly to the School of Medicine, the centre aims to enhance the availability of team-based primary healthcare in a rapidly growing region of Ontario while supporting medical services for more than 14,000 residents who currently do not have a family doctor.
Calling it a historic moment, Jose Espinosa, President and CEO of 407 ETR, said the investment reflects the company’s commitment to connecting communities not just through transportation, but also through access to essential healthcare. Mohamed Lachemi noted that the Integrated Health Centre will serve as a cornerstone for hands-on medical education, focusing on primary care, chronic disease management, and community-based services, while also helping address ongoing physician shortages.
Patrick Brown welcomed the investment, highlighting 407 ETR’s continued support for the city through healthcare, community initiatives, and local development. The announcement comes as more than 2.5 million Ontarians continue to face challenges accessing regular primary care, underscoring the importance of initiatives like this in strengthening Ontario’s healthcare system for the future.
