Toronto police have busted three Brampton men in a major fraud probe called Project Carbon Copy, uncovering an alleged coast-to-coast cheque scam that cost banks nearly $500,000.
Investigators say the group travelled across Canada, depositing fake cheques while accomplices quickly pulled the cash from ATMs, retail terminals, and even casinos.
Earlier this week, police searched a Brampton home and two vehicles, seizing $70,000 in cash, gold and other precious metals, cheques, banking records, luxury clothing, cell phones, and two vehicles.
Three men — Jashanbir Jabbal (23), Gurbir Jabbal (25), and Aryan Gupta (23) — all from Brampton, are each facing two counts of fraud over $5,000. They’re set to appear in court on January 28.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
