Peel Police Crack Down: Suspect Charged in Two Extortion Shootings; One Shooter Still on the Run

Peel Regional Police have arrested one man and are searching for another after two “extortion-related” shootings in Caledon and Brampton.

The first incident took place on October 26 near Old School Road and Creditview Road in Caledon, just west of Highway 10. Around 3 a.m., two suspects in a silver BMW SUV reportedly showed up at a home, poured an accelerant on the driveway, set it on fire, and then fired several shots at the residence.

A short time later, police say the same suspects targeted a business near Dixie Road and Advance Boulevard in Brampton, where one of them fired multiple rounds from inside a vehicle. Thankfully, no one was hurt in either shooting.

On November 7, 25-year-old Iqbal Bhagria of Brampton was arrested and charged with several offences, including arson, reckless discharge of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and uttering a forged document. He remains in custody while awaiting a bail hearing.

Police are still searching for the second suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133, or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
