Police Investigating After Body Found Following Shed Fire in Brampton

Peel Regional Police are investigating after a body was found inside a shed following a fire at a Brampton home Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called around 3:45 p.m. to Aloma Crescent, in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Bramalea Road, after reports of a shed fire behind a residence.

Once the fire was put out, police said the body of a person believed to be a man was discovered inside the shed.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause or circumstances of the man’s death. Police say the case is currently being treated as suspicious, which is standard in any unexplained death investigation.

Const. Tyler Bell with Peel police said investigators are working to determine whether the man died as a result of the fire or if he was already deceased before the blaze broke out.

Bell said the remains will undergo a post-mortem examination to help determine the exact cause of death and whether any criminality was involved.

Police have also not confirmed whether the man lived at the property or had any connection to it, as investigators are still working to identify him.

Brampton Fire Services said the blaze was contained to the shed and was quickly knocked down due to the structure’s small size.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has also been called in and is now investigating the cause, origin, and circumstances surrounding the fire.
