Police Hunt for Driver After Woman Killed in New Year’s Day Hit-and-Run on Hwy. 401

Police are asking for the public’s help as they search for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run on Highway 401 in Mississauga on New Year’s Day.

Ontario Provincial Police say the incident happened around 5:45 a.m. in the eastbound collector lanes near Dixie Road. A 32-year-old woman from Scarborough fell from a moving vehicle and was then struck by another car.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a light-coloured Toyota or Nissan. Police say the driver may not even realize they struck a person. The vehicle could have damage on the front driver’s side.

In a video appeal shared Wednesday, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt urged the driver — or anyone with information — to come forward to help bring answers and closure to the victim’s family.

Anyone with dashcam footage or details about the incident is asked to contact the police.
