What do you think is needed to protect Downtown Brampton from flooding? The risk of flooding in big cities has become an increasing problem over the past few years.
What has traditionally been known as the hundred year storm is now becoming more frequent, mostly within a few years apart. You may remember the floods back in 2013; Brampton was definitely not immune.
So that’s why there’s a special meeting coming up that you should attend to learn more about what Brampton is doing to protect downtown Brampton from flooding.
This meeting is jointly hosted by the City of Brampton and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. According to the notice from TRCA, the purpose is to consider alternative ways to protect Downtown Brampton from future flood events and unlock the potential for revitalization through the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection Environmental Assessment.
Another purpose of the EA is to identify a preferred alternative for providing flood protection for Brampton’s downtown core while considering urban design and land use opportunities for the city.
The meeting will take place on November 7 at Brampton City Hall at the Atrium. There will be an open house discussion from 5 pm to 9 pm, with the official presentation taking place at 7 pm. TRCA will be introducing the project, the preliminary list of alternatives and the evaluation criteria used to evaluate the alternatives.
